Kotalipara (Gopalganj) Correspondent

After the recent  attack on Amar Desh journalist Moniruzzaman Sheikh Jewel in Kotalipara ,  miscreants including BNP leaders carried out an attack on Kaler Kantho Upazila Correspondent Mizanur Rahman Bulu, leaving him injured.

During the attack, the assailants also snatched Tk 30,000 in cash and a mobile phone from the journalist.

The incident occurred this Tuesday  afternoon in front of the big bridge in the municipal market area of the upazila headquarters.

Following the assault on Amar Desh’s Kotalipara correspondent Moniruzzaman Sheikh Jewel by local leaders and activists of Jubo Dal and Chhatra Dal, this latest attack on journalist Mizanur Rahman by BNP leaders has sparked anger among the local journalist community.

Journalist Mizanur Rahman Bulu has filed a written complaint with Kotalipara Police Station against four people, including two BNP leaders, for their involvement in the attack.

The injured journalist received primary treatment at the upazila health complex and was later released.

According to the complaint, on August 10, Kaler Kantho Online published a report titled “Office Assistant of Kotalipara Upazila Women Affairs Department, Md. Bahaddin Daria, Accused of Cheating Multiple Women.” In retaliation for that report, around 2:00 pm Tuesday, miscreants intercepted journalists Mizanur Rahman and Jugantor correspondent Mehedi Hasanat near the big bridge in Kotalipara municipal market.

At that time, Md. Bahaddin Daria (Office Assistant, Women Affairs Department), BNP leader Basar Howlader Baccu (son of Barek Howlader of Chitshi village), poultry seller Md. Azizul Haque Howlader (son of Monsur Howlader), and BNP leader Manikuzzaman Howlader (son of Abdul Rashid Howlader) attacked journalist Mizanur Rahman mercilessly, leaving him seriously injured. They also hurled abusive language and issued death threats. During the assault, the attackers snatched Tk 30,000 in cash and a mobile phone from his pocket.

Journalists working in Gopalganj have strongly condemned the incident and demanded the immediate arrest and prosecution of the attackers.

Kotalipara Police Station OC  Md. Hafizur Rahman said, “We have received the complaint. The accused will be arrested and brought under the law soon.”
