Shah Jahan Ali Miton, Satkhira
A human chain has been held to protest the long-standing suffering of the residents of Ward No. 7 of Satkhira First Class Municipality, as well as the road and drainage problems to resolve the civic mismanagement and water logging.
The local residents expressed their anger against the poor condition of the roads, broken drains and extreme waterlogging in the human chain held in the area adjacent to the bypass of Ward No. 7 of the municipality on Sunday afternoon.
Organized by the residents of Ward No. 7, Itagachha resident Md. Shafiur Rahman Shafi presided over the event, while Md. Rabiul Islam, Md. Amer Ali of Kharibila village, Md. Mosharraf Hossain of Raishpur village, Md. Asadul Islam Babu of Itagachha Purbapara, Asaduzzaman Piyal of Itagachha Paschim Para, along with local residents, social workers and affected citizens, spoke at the event.
They said, "There has been no development in our ward for a long time. Whenever the monsoon comes, water rises in houses, the roads are two to two and a half feet deep. The drainage system is broken, there is no water line, yet we are the taxpayers of the municipality." The speakers also said that they demanded that the road department open the space on both sides of the bypass road from Zero Point to the front of the Medical College and make arrangements for water drainage. They also demanded that there be two canals in Ward No. 7, which have been renovated and have a strong demand for the construction of a swale.
The speakers sought urgent intervention from the government to quickly install new drainage systems and take effective steps to resolve water logging.
At this time, more than a hundred people, including men and women, participated in the human chain.
