M. Golam Mostafa Bhuiyan, Secretary General of the Bangladesh National Awami Party (NAP), has stated that the country should not witness the rise of any new fascist forces. He expressed concern that, after the July revolution, those who were placed in power seem to be making attempts to compromise with fascism.

Speaking as the chief guest at a memorial meeting and prayer session on the 16th death anniversary of Bangladesh NAP Chairman and former Minister Shafiqul Gani Swapan in Sundarkhata, Dimla on Saturday,  Bhuiyan remarked that to free the country from the grip of fascism, free, fair, and participatory elections must be held. He emphasized that those seeking elections without reforms or justice are, in fact, trying to establish fascism.

Bhuiyan stressed the necessity of significant reforms before any elections. “The expectation for a fair election, free from muscle power and black money, is shared by everyone. It is essential to implement the July declaration and make it legally robust. We need to ensure effective reforms and a fair electoral process,” he said.

He also highlighted the importance of bringing fascist criminals to justice, stating, “The trial of war criminals and fascist elements is an urgent matter. Law and order are deteriorating, and commodity prices are becoming unbearable. For the sake of public security and to make life more affordable, interim governments must take decisive actions."

Reflecting on the legacy of Shafiqul Gani Swapan, Bhuiyan praised his lifelong struggle for democracy and the liberation of the working class. "Swapan dedicated his life to the fight for democracy and the freedom of the working people. His contributions will remain exemplary for future generations," he said.

He also referred to the July declaration as an incomplete reflection of the aspirations of students and the masses. "The declaration failed to fully capture the hopes of the people, and after August 5, many have become blinded by self-interest.

The meeting was chaired by Bangladesh NAP Dimla Upazila Convener Zakaria Hossain Razu, with discussions led by various leaders including NAP leaders Mohammad Ali Sanu, Dimla Upazila Adviser Abdur Rahman, Wahidur Rahman, former Member Secretary Mofakkarul Islam Pelab, members Mohammad Aminul Islam Laju, Lutfor Rahman, Shah Alam, Domar Upazila Coordinator Jagabandhu Ray, and Firoz Parvez Uzzal.
