The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has issued notices seeking information from 15 more officials of the Barishal City Corporation (BCC). Md. Abul Qayyum Howlader, assistant director of the ACC's Barishal Combined District Office, issued the notice.
ACC sources said this on Sunday. Earlier, notices were issued to 19 more people.
The notice has summoned the officials' official names, titles, names of the branches they work in (where applicable), current and permanent addresses, NIDs, mobile numbers and related documents.
The officials who received the notice from the corporation are - Executive Engineers Abdul Motaleb, Abul Bashar, Omar Faruk and Maksumul Hakim Reza, Assistant Engineer Arifur Rahman, Deputy Assistant Engineers Shafiqul Alam, Ahsan Habib and Rezaul Karim, Assistant Engineer (Electricity) Ohid Murad, Cleaning Officers Deepak Lal Mridha and Rezaul Karim, Revenue Officer Babul Halder, Trade License Super Md. Shahidul Islam, Superintendent (Water Supply) Md. Panna and Medical Officer Khandaker Manjurul Islam Shuvro.
According to reliable sources from the ACC, the individuals who received the notices are accused of irregularities in development work, bribery, non-payment of revenue, irregularities and negligence in the health sector, and bribery in the name of issuing trade licenses.
Among the people involved, Revenue Officer Babul Halder and Trade Superintendent Md. Shahidul are accused of corruption and embezzlement. They were dismissed from the City Corporation in February 2023 after evidence of corruption was found against them. However, both of them got their jobs back through the influence of the then Chhatra League.
In this regard, ACC Barishaal Director Mozahar Ali Sardar said, "Recently, a corruption investigation is underway against some officials of the City Corporation. After the investigation, the commission will take legal action in light of the report submitted by the official."
