The Bangladesh Coast Guard has intercepted a major narcotics shipment in Cox's Bazar, arresting two drug traffickers and seizing 15,600 pieces of Yaba tablets worth Tk 78 lakh.
Lieutenant Commander Sabbir Alam Sujon, Media Officer of the Bangladesh Coast Guard, confirmed the development during a press briefing on Friday afternoon, noting that the contraband was being transported in a private sedan.
Acting on precise intelligence, a specialized operational team from the Coast Guard Station Cox’s Bazar set up a checkpoint and launched a targeted raid at around 5:00 AM on Friday near the Sugandha Beach area under Cox’s Bazar Sadar Police Station. During the operation, the team intercepted a suspicious private car. A thorough search of the vehicle led to the discovery of the large haul of psychotropic pills.
The security forces immediately seized the narcotics, impounded the vehicle used in the trafficking operation, and took the two smugglers into custody.
The confiscated Yaba tablets, the seized sedan, and the detained suspects are currently being processed for transfer to local police, with formal legal proceedings underway.
The Coast Guard high command reiterated that it will continue to execute aggressive anti-narcotics campaigns to protect the youth and eradicate the drug menace from coastal regions.
